Monster Bash Contest

FAMILY’S Monster Bash Contest“ (the “Contest”)
OFFICIAL RULES (the “Contest Rules”)

The Contest runs from 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) October 4, 2018 to 11:59 p.m. ET November 2, 2018 (the “Contest Period”).


  • Tune into Family every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ET during the Contest Period, via local cable or satellite channel providers in your area and look for the announcement banner in the lower third of the screen that will display the secret word of the week.  The word of the week will expire every Friday at 11:59 p.m. ET (the “Weekly Period”) during the Contest Period. When you have found the secret word of the week, you may enter the Contest by going to (the “Website”) and clicking on the Contest icon;


  • Visit the Website and click on the Contest icon displayed on the “Contests” section of the Website to access the Contest microsite. Watch the “Massive Monster Mayhem” video, to obtain the correct secret word of the week, for the applicable Weekly Period. Once you watched the video, and found the secret word of the week you may enter the Contest;

The Weekly Period start and end dates, are as set out below:

Week 1:

Starts October 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. ET and ends October 12, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. ET

Week 2:

Starts October 13, 2018 at 12:00 a.m.ET and ends October 19, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. ET

Week 3:

Starts October 20, 2018 at 12:00 a.m. ET and ends October 26, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. ET

Week 4:

Starts October 27, 2018 at 12:00 a.m. ET and ends November 2, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. ET

Once you have found the correct word of the week, click on the ENTER button to access the standard Contest entry form.Fill out the entry form by (i) entering your full name, age, city, province or territory, phone number, and email address; (ii) selecting the correct secret word of the week from the drop-down menu; and (iii) submit your completed entry form.  A completed online entry form will constitute one entry into the Contest. 

The only method of entry for this Contest is online entry (internet access required). Online entry is available through the Website only; no other means of submission will be accepted. Although online access and an email account are required in order to participate, no purchase is required in order to enter the Contest. Many public libraries, retail businesses and others offer free access to computers and a number of Internet service providers and other companies offer free email accounts.

All eligible Contest entries will be entered for a chance to win the Grand Prize and Secondary Prize.   

The Contest is open only to permanent lawful residents of Canada, excluding: (i) residents of Quebec under the age of 13; (ii) any person, or any person whose immediate family members (i.e., parents, children, spouse, siblings, grandparents, the “steps” of each and persons residing in such immediate family members' household), and persons with whom they are domiciled, has been declared a winner of another contest sponsored by DHX Television Ltd. (“Family” and the “Contest Sponsor”) within 90 days of the start of the Contest Period; and (iii) employees, officers, directors, representatives, and agents (and their immediate family members, or persons with whom they are domiciled, whether related or not) of Family or Ripley’s Niagara Water Park Resort LP (“Great Wolf Lodge” or the Prize Provider”), and each of their parents, subsidiaries and affiliates, and advertising and promotional agencies involved in this Contest. This Contest is subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations. Void where prohibited by law.  Contest Sponsor, with the consent of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (the “RACJ”), reserves the right to cancel or suspend this Contest in the event of any accident, or administrative or other error of any kind.

An entrant under the age of majority in his/her province of residence (a “Minor”) must have a parent or legal guardian consent to his/her participation. Proof of identification and parental consent must be provided upon request. If a parent or legal guardian does not provide consent, or if satisfactory proof of identification to confirm the winner’s (or the Minor winner’s parent/ legal guardian’s) identity and personal information provided in connection with the Contest, including but not limited to, the winner’s (or the Minor winner’s parent/ legal guardian’s) name and email address, cannot be obtained, the entry will be disqualified.

Entries must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on November 2, 2018. Contest Sponsor takes no responsibility for entries that are lost, misdirected, delayed, garbled, incorrect, illegible or received after the Contest deadline. Limit one entry per person, per day, in addition to a limit of four entries from the same household per day, regardless of the method used to enter the Contest.  Only one email address and account may be used by any person to enter the Contest.  In the event that Contest Sponsor receives more than the permitted number of entries, Contest Sponsor reserves the right to void and destroy any entries from that entrant and household, and that entrant/household may, at the discretion of the Contest Sponsor, be disqualified from the Contest. Should it be discovered that an entrant is using the aid of computer programs to auto-fill entries, that entrant will be immediately disqualified from the Contest. Contest Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify all such entrants from future contests conducted by the Contest Sponsor without further notice.

In the event of a dispute as to the identity of a winner based on an email address, the winning entry will be deemed to be made by the authorized account holder of the email address at the time of entry. The authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned an email address by an Internet service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the email address in question.

(referred to herein as “Prize(s)”, “Grand Prize(s)” or “Secondary Prize(s)” as applicable)

There is one Grand Prize package available to be won, consisting of: 

  • Round trip transportation for the winner and his/her three guests (one of whom must be 21 or older at the time of travel) from winner’s residence in Canada, to Great Wolf Lodge, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, as follows:
    • If the Winner resides within 300 kilometers of Toronto, Ontario, the winner and three his/her guests will be provided with round trip ground transportation from winner’s residence to Great Wolf Lodge (transportation details will be at the Contest Sponsor’s sole discretion).
    • If the Winner resides more than 300 kilometers outside of Toronto, Ontario, the winner and his/her three guests will be provided with round trip economy class airfares, from the Canadian international airport closest to winner’s residence to Toronto, Ontario, including ground transfers between the airport in Toronto, and Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls

(the average approximate retail value (“ARV”) is $1,540.00, however ultimately depends on the distance travelled, type of transportation, location, and dates of travel);

  • One two night family getaway at Great Wolf Lodge for the winner and his/her three guests (of which one is 21 or older at the time of travel) in a themed accommodation room, based on quad occupancy:  Wolf Den, or Family Fireplace Suite, all of which include, water park passes, access to 24 hour fitness center, Kids Activities, Story Time, Forest Friends, and complimentary wifi; choice of room is subject to availability at the time of booking (accommodation type will be based on availability at the time of booking, and at the Prize Provider’s sole discretion) (average ARV is $650.00)
  • Three meals over two days (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for this winner and his/her three guests, at the Antler Shanty restaurant located within Great Wolf Lodge resort.  Alcohol is not included. (ARV $350.00)
  • A Paw Pass for up to three children, including:
    • 30 Paw Points for Northern Lights Arcade;
    • two games of bowling at Ten Paw Alley or one game at Wacky Wilderness Mini Golf;
    • one 5x7 Paw Prints water slide photo;
    • one MagiQuest classic wand or classic topper;
    • one pair of wolf ears from the Trading Post Gift Shop;
    • one gift at Scoops Kid Spa;
    • one colour-your-own item at Cub Club;
    • one Stuffing Station animal (outfit and accessories not included); and
    • one ¼ lb of fudge from Bear Claw café.

(ARV $210.00).
The approximate retail value of Grand Prize is $2,750.00 but may vary depending on dates of travel, the departure city and the room type. All amounts are in Canadian dollars.

By accepting the Prize, the winner (or a Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian on his/her behalf), agree to travel between December 1, 2018 and June 1, 2019 (the “Travel Period”). Standard blackout dates apply: including all Saturdays, the weeks of December 24, 2018 to January 1, 2019 and March 8, 2019 to March 16, 2019, in addition to all holidays listed below (collectively the “Holidays”).

Entrants selected as the Grand Prize winner, and his/her guest(s), must be able to travel during the Travel Period or the selected Grand Prize winner and his/her guests, shall forfeit the Grand Prize. All travel is booked on behalf of the winners by the Contest Sponsor or their representative and is based on availability.

All costs and expenses not specifically included above as part of the Prize including, without limitation, taxes, fees, gratuities, travel insurance, items of a personal nature, excursions, tours, parking, souvenirs, merchandise, all alcoholic beverages, and meals and/or snacks at restaurants not named in the Grand Prize (“Expenses”), are the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize winner and his/her guests.  The Prize winner and guests may not seek reimbursement for any Expenses from the Releasees (as defined under the “Acceptance of Prize” section below). 

Lost or stolen tickets and travel vouchers will not be replaced.  It is strongly recommended that the winner and his/her guests purchase medical, accident and baggage insurance, if travelling outside of their Province of residence. The Contest Sponsor and Prize Provider are not responsible in this respect. It is the responsibility of the declared winner and his/her guests to check with the airline for baggage restrictions, if applicable.

The winner and his/her three guests must travel together on the same itinerary. No changes will be made to travel details once any portion of travel arrangements has been made, except as may be required due to availability and/or as may be required by the Contest Sponsor, or the Prize Provider in their sole and absolute discretion. The Grand Prize (and all elements thereof) is not redeemable for cash and are non-transferable except in the Contest Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion. The Prize may not be sold or transferred to any other person or third party.

Actual retail value of the Prize trip package may be higher or lower based on departure schedules and locations and seasonal rates.  If the actual value of the Grand Prize is less than the stated approximate retail value, the difference will not be awarded.

Each of winner’s guests who is under 21 years of age at the time of departure (the “Minor Guest”), must either (i) travel with his/her parent or legal guardian who shall be one of winner’s guests and who shall be fully and legally responsible for the Minor Guest for the duration of the Grand Prize trip; and must stay in the same room as his/her parent or legal guardian; or (ii) if the Minor Guest is not traveling with his/her parent or legal guardian, the Minor Guest must stay in the same room with winner who is 21 years of age, or older, or with the Minor winner’s parent or legal guardian, in which case the Minor Guest’s parent or legal guardian must in advance appoint the winner, or Minor winner’s parent or legal guardian (as applicable) full legal custody and control over the Minor Guest and the ability to contract on his/her behalf for the duration of  the Grand Prize trip.  Each Minor Guest must meet the foregoing conditions in order for the Minor Guest to be eligible to accompany the winner on the Grand Prize trip.

There is one Secondary Prize package available to be won, consisting of:

  • One Massive Moon Ball (ARV $50.00);
  • Three 14" Massive Monster Mayhem figures (total ARV $54.00);
  • One 20" Massive Monster Figure (ARV $40.00);
  • Two Massive Monster Mayhem inflatable Basic Armors (total ARV $36.00);
  • Three 48" Massive Monster Mayhem inflatable Bash Weapons (total ARV $36.00);
  • Two pairs of Massive Monster Mayhem Power Punchers (total ARV $60.00);
  • Three Massive Monster Mayhem Foam Weapons (total ARV $75.00).

Approximate retail value of the Secondary Prize is $351.00.

The combined approximate retail value of the Prizes $3,101.00. All amounts are in Canadian dollars.

A random draw will be held at 12:00 p.m. ET on November 5, 2018 at Family’s office located at 207 Queens Quay West, Suite 550, Toronto, Ontario. There will be one Grand Prize draw and one Secondary Prize draw to fulfill this Contest. The chances of being selected to win a Prize in this Contest depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

A Family representative will notify each selected entrant, or the parent/legal guardian of each selected entrant who is a Minor, by telephone or email within ten days of the draw. Each selected entrant will then have within tendays following receipt of notification to contact Family and provide requested documentation to claim his/her Prize. Notification shall be deemed to have occurred, in the case of telephone notification, on the date that selected entrant, or in the case of a Minor, his or her parent or guardian, speaks with a representative of Family, or, in the case of email notification, the date the email is sent to the selected entrant’s email address by Family. It is the responsibility of the selected entrant or the selected Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian to check his or her email account in a timely manner. Prior to being awarded a Prize, each entrant selected as a winner must correctly complete, unaided, a time-limited, mathematical, skill testing question and must sign a declaration and release form (“Declaration and Release”) confirming compliance with these Contest Rules, his/her acceptance of the Prize as awarded; and acknowledging the non-responsibility of the Contest Sponsor and the Prize Provider each of their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, cable and satellite affiliates, associates, their respective promotional and advertising agencies, and each of their respective employees, officers, directors, agents, successors and assigns (the “Releasees”), with regard to any injury, accident, damage, claim, liability, loss or misfortune related to any aspects of the Contest, any Prize awarded, the acceptance, use, misuse, possession and delivery of a Prize, participation of winner and his/her guests in any Prize related activities, printing errors or claims based upon publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy. A Minor winner’s parent or legal guardian must sign the Declaration and Release on his/her behalf in order for the winner to claim his/her Prize.

Each of the Grand Prize winner’s guests must sign a release form similar to the winner’s Declaration and Release in order to be eligible to participate in the Grand Prize.

The Declaration and Release must be signed and returned by November 26, 2018. Should Family be unable to contact the selected entrant by telephone or email, or should a selected entrantbe unable to correctly answer the skill-testing question or does not respond and complete the Declaration and Release by the deadline specified above, that selected entrant will be deemed to have forfeited any rights to the Prize and an alternate entrant will be selected in the same manner by random draw taken from the same pool of entries, in which event, the foregoing provisions of this sentence shall also apply to such other eligible entry. This process shall be repeated until such time as a selected entrant is confirmed to be a Prize winner or until there are no more eligible entries, but in any event no later than December 17, 2018 . All Prize taxes, if any, are the responsibility of each winner. Limit one Prize per household.

The Contest Sponsor and Prize Provider will not be held responsible for the loss of any Prize due to changes in mailing addresses, errors in completed entry forms or any other circumstances leading to an invalid, erroneous or incomplete mailing address or email address.

Family or its appointed designee shall deliver Prizes to selected winner(s).

By submitting an entry, each entrant (or Minor entrant’s parent or legal guardian on his/her behalf) agrees to be bound by these Contest Rules.
All entries become the property of Family and will not be returned.

Each Prize must be accepted “as is” and may not be exactly as shown. Contest Sponsor and Prize Providers, in their sole discretion, reserves the right to substitute any portion of a Prize with a prize of equivalent or greater retail value.  Some restrictions may apply. Prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable, non-negotiable and have no cash value. If the actual value of any Prize is less than the stated approximate retail value, the difference will not be awarded.  All Prize elements are subject to availability.

All incidental costs and expenses, including but not limited to, batteries and additional accessories, (the “Expenses”) not specifically mentioned herein as part of the Prize description are the sole responsibility of the Prize winner. The Prize winner shall not seek reimbursement for the Expenses from the Contest Sponsor or the Prize Provider.
Except where prohibited by law, Contest Sponsors and Prize Prover do not make any representation nor offer any warranty, express or implied, as to the quality or fitness of the Prize(s) awarded in connection with the Contest. Each Prize winner (or parent/legal guardian of a Minor winner) understands and acknowledges that he or she may not seek reimbursement or pursue any legal or equitable remedy from the Contest Sponsor or the Prize Provider should the Prize fail to be fit for any purpose or is in any way unsatisfactory to a Prize winner.

By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees to waive all rights with respect to print and broadcast publicity. By entering the Contest and accepting a Prize, the winner or Minor winner’s parent or legal guardian hereby consents to the reasonable use by Contest Sponsor of the winner's name, age, photograph, voice, likeness and image, city and province/territory of residence, worldwide and in perpetuity, without any further compensation, for any future promotional activity in connection with this Contest.

By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees that the Releasees shall bear no responsibility whatsoever with regard to any claims, liability, damage, injury, accident, loss and misfortune related to any aspects of the Contest, the Prize, the acceptance, use, misuse, possession and delivery of the Prize, participation of winner and his/her guests in any Prize related activities, printing errors, claims based upon publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy. By consenting to a Minor entrant’s entry into the Contest, the Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian agrees to the foregoing on the Minor entrant’s behalf.

By entering the Contest and voluntarily providing personal information, each entrant (or the parent or legal guardian of a Minor entrant) consents and agrees to Family’s collection and use of the information provided by the entrant for the purpose of administering this Contest and, if consent is given at the time of entry, to provide the entrant with marketing information relating to new and existing products and upcoming promotions of Family by email. Your personal information will not be disclosed to any third party nor will you receive communications from the Contest Sponsor, in compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, the “Act”) and its associated regulations, Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (CASL) and its associated regulations, and other applicable data protection and personal information protection laws. Contest Sponsor is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of registration or entry information which may affect an entrants’ inability to get through on the internet during the promotion or ability to participate in the Contest, including but not limited to human error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed/corrupted data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof, any inability to access the site, or damage to a user's system occasioned by participating in the Contest, and entries which fail to fully comply with these Contest Rules. 

Contest Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, and with the consent of the RACJ, to cancel, modify or suspend a contest for any reason, including without limitation in the event of any printing, administrative error, virus, bug, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond its control which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Contest Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.  Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way. Appropriate notice to the RACJ will be provided where necessary. Family and its sponsors are not responsible for preemption, cancellation, or interruption, in whole or in part, of any Family contest related programming.

For residents of Quebec, any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the RACJ for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the RACJ only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
