FAMILY’S STAND UP! SPOTLIGHT Nomination (the Nomination”)
NOMINATION RULES (the “Nomination Rules”)

Three entrants will be selected to be featured in Family’s Stand Up! Spotlight Nomination. The nomination entry period commences at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) on November 18, 2019 and the deadline for submitting nominations is 2:00 p.m. ET on January 31, 2020 (the “Nomination Period”). All eligible entries received on or before the nomination deadline will be reviewed by a panel of judges (as described below in these Nomination Guidelines).  The panel of judges will select the winning entries from all eligible entries received within the Nomination Period.

Each entrant must create and submit a video entry or word entry to Family nominating a person who has impacted your life through an act of kindness and/or compassion for a chance to be featured in a feature segment produced by Family.



To submit a nomination, go to (the “Website”) and click on the “Family’s Stand UP! Spotlight Nomination” icon displayed in the CONTESTS section of the Website to access the Nomination microsite.  

Click the ENTER button to access the standard Nomination entry form.  Fill out the entry form by (i) submitting a 2-3-minute video entry OR a word entry in less than 1000 characters; (ii) entering your full name, age, city, province, phone number, email address, and parent/legal guardian’s full name and contact information if you are a Minor entrant (as defined in Eligibility); then, (iii) submit your completed Nomination form. All entries must follow the Stand Up! Spotlight Nomination Guidelines below. A completed online entry form will constitute one Nomination.

Stand UP! Spotlight Guidelines for entries:

  • Your nominee can be anyone from your community or beyond, including but not limited to; family members, teachers/school staff, or friends/class mates.
  • Explain why your nominee is a person who has made a positive impact on your life through an act of kindness and/or compassion.
  • Explain how your nominee’s act of kindness and/or compassion has made a difference in your life.

The only method of entry for this Nomination is online entry (internet access required). Online entry is available through the Website only; no other means of submission will be accepted. Although online access and an email account are required in order to participate, no purchase is required in order to submit a nomination. Many public libraries, retail businesses and others offer free access to computers and a number of Internet service providers and other companies offer free email accounts.

All eligible Nominations entries will be entered for a chance to win a Prize. 

The  Nomination is open to permanent lawful residents of Canada  excluding (i) residents of Quebec under the age of 13; or (ii) any person, or any person whose immediate family members (i.e., parents, children, spouse, siblings, grandparents, the “steps” of each and persons residing in such immediate family members' household), and persons with whom they are domiciled, has been declared a winner of another contest sponsored by DHX Television Ltd. (“Family” and the “Nomination Sponsor”) within 90 days of the start of the Nomination  Period; and (iii) employees, directors, officers, representatives and agents (and their immediate family members (i.e., parents, children, spouse, siblings, grandparents, the “steps” of each and persons residing in such immediate family members’ household) or persons with whom they are domiciled, whether related or not) of Nomination Sponsor and its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates and  advertising and promotional agencies involved in this Nomination.  This Nomination is subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations.   Void where prohibited by law.  Nomination Sponsor, with the consent of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (the “RACJ”), reserves the right to cancel or suspend this Nomination in the event of any accident, or administrative or other error of any kind.

An entrant under the age of majority in his/her province of residence (a “Minor”) must have a parent/legal guardian consent to his/her participation. Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian must provide his/her consent and his/her email address on the entry form, or the entry form will be disqualified. Proof of identification and parental consent must be provided upon request. If a parent or legal guardian does not provide consent, or if satisfactory proof of identification to confirm the  winner’s (or the Minor winner’s parent/ legal guardian’s) identity and personal information provided in connection with the Nomination, including but not limited to, the winner’s (or the Minor winner’s parent/legal guardian’s) name and email address, cannot be obtained, the Nomination will be disqualified.

Entries must be received no later than 2:00 p.m. ET on January 31, 2020. Nomination Sponsor takes no responsibility for entries that are lost, misdirected, delayed, garbled, incorrect, illegible or received after the Nomination deadline. Proof of your mailing or emailing does not constitute proof of receipt. Limit one entry per personin addition to a limit of four entries from the same household. Only one email address and account may be used by any person to enter the Nomination. In the event the Nomination Sponsor receives more than the permitted number of entries, the Nomination Sponsor reserves the right to void and destroy any entries from that entrant and household, and that entrant/household may, at the discretion of the Nomination Sponsor, be disqualified from the Nomination. Should it be discovered that an entrant is using the aid of computer programs to auto-fill entries, that entrant will be immediately disqualified from the Nomination. Nomination Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify all such entrants from future contests conducted by the Nomination Sponsor without further notice.

In the event of a dispute as to the identity of a winner based on an email address, the winning entry will be deemed to be made by the authorized account holder of the email address at the time of entry. The authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned an email address by an Internet service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the email address in question.

(referred to herein as “Prize(s)” or, “Grand Prize(s)”” as applicable)

There are three Grand Prizes to be won.  For the purposes of this Nomination the Grand Prize shall mean the eligible entrants whose nomination is selected to win a Stand Up!  Spotlight feature segment.  Selected Grand Prize winners will receive:

A May 2020 Stand Up! Spotlight feature segment, consisting of:

  • A filmed Stand Up! Spotlight Nomination segment produced by Family featuring winner and his/her nominee; and/or any other parties deemed to be appropriate to the segment to be aired on Family in available air space between channel programming beginning in May of 2020 (exact start/end dates TBC)

If the winner and/or his/her nominee is a Minor in his/her province or territory of residence, his/her parent or legal guardian must be present at all times during the feature segment and has agreed to be present and legally responsible during the feature segment for the selected winner and/or nominee.

The components and logistics of the prize, and related activities will be co-ordinated by Family Channel and those persons who submitted the Nominations selected for the Stand Up! Spotlight features. The Grand Prize has no cash value.

On or about 12:00 p.m. ET, on February 5, 2020, at Family Channel’s office located at 207 Queens Quay West, Suite 550, Toronto, Ontario, a panel of judges, chosen by Family in its sole and absolute discretion, (the “Judging Panel”) will select three potential Grand Prize winners based on the most compelling Nomination describing a person who has impacted your life through an act of kindness and/or compassion.  The chances of being selected to win a Prize in this Nomination depends on the total number of eligible entries received and the Judging Panel’s decisions.  All Judging Panels’ decisions are final.

 The following criteria will be utilized by the Judging Panel to assess Nominations:

A Family representative will notify each selected entrant, or the parent/legal guardians of each selected entrant who is a Minor, by telephone or email within three days of the Winner Selection.  Each selected entrant will than have within five days following receipt of notification to contact Family and provide requested documentation to claim his/her Prize. Notification shall be deemed to have occurred, in the case of telephone notification, on the date that the selected entrant, or in the case of a Minor, his/her parent/legal guardian, speaks with a representative of Family, or, in the case of email notification, the date the email is sent to the Grand Prize entrant’s email address by Family. It is the responsibility of the selected entrant or the selected Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian to check his/her email account in a timely manner. 

Prior to being awarded a Prize, each selected entrant as a winner must correctly complete, unaided, a time-limited, mathematical, skill testing question and must sign a declaration and release form (“Declaration and Release”) confirming compliance with these Nomination Rules, his/her acceptance of the Prize, as awarded; and acknowledging the non-responsibility of the Nomination Sponsor, its each of their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, cable and satellite affiliates, associates, their respective promotional and advertising agencies, and each of their respective employees, officers, directors, agents, successors and assigns (the “Releasees”), with regard to any injury, accident, damage, claim, liability, loss or misfortune related to any aspects of the Nomination, any Prize awarded, the acceptance, use, misuse, possession and delivery of a Prize, participation of winner in any Prize related activities, printing errors or claims based upon publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy. A Minor entrant’s parent or legal guardian must sign the Declaration and Release on his/her behalf in order for the entrant to claim his/her Prize. In addition, a user generated content release form (the “User Generated Content Release”) granting Family the right to use, publish, and display their child’s name, city and province of residence, image, photograph, likeness, voice and unique story, as well as their child’s creative work produced and submitted for the Stand UP! Spotlight including a Footage Consent and Release form.  If an entrant is a Minor, his/her parent/legal guardian must sign the Declaration and Release on entrant’s and nominee’s behalf in order for the entrant to claim his/her Prize.

Each of the winner’s and his/her nominees’ must sign a release form similar to the entrant’s Declaration and Release in order to be eligible to participate in the Grand Prize.

The Declaration and Release and the User Generated Content Release (including the Footage Consent and Release Form) (the “Releases”) must be signed and returned within three days. Should Family be unable to contact the selected entrant by telephone or email, or should a selected entrantbe unable to correctly answer the skill-testing question or does not respond and complete the Declaration and Release by the deadline specified above, that selected entrant will be deemed to have forfeited any rights to the Prize and an alternate entrant will be selected in the same manner as the Winner Selection, in which event, the foregoing provisions of this sentence shall also apply to such other eligible entry. This process shall be repeated until such time as a selected entrant is confirmed to be a Prize winner or until there are no more eligible entries, but in any event no later than March 2, 2020. All Prize taxes, if any, are the responsibility of each winner. Limit one Prize per household.

Nomination Sponsor will not be held responsible for the loss of any Prize due to changes in mailing addresses, errors in completed entry forms or any other circumstances leading to an invalid, erroneous or incomplete mailing address or email address.

Family or its appointed designee shall deliver Prizes to selected entrant(s).

By submitting a Nomination, each entrant and his/her nominee (or Minor entrant’s and/or his/her Minor nominee’s parent or legal guardian on his/her behalf) agrees to be bound by these Nomination Rules.

All entries become the property of Family and will not be returned.

Each Prize must be accepted “as is” and may not be exactly as shown. Nomination Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to substitute any portion of a Prize with a prize of equivalent or greater value. Some restrictions may apply. Prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable, non-negotiable and have no cash value. If the actual value of any Prize is less than the stated approximate retail value, the difference will not be awarded. All Prize elements are subject to availability.

All incidental costs and expenses, including but not limited to, batteries and additional accessories, (the “Expenses”) not specifically mentioned herein as part of the Prize description are the sole responsibility of the Prize winner. The Prize winner shall not seek reimbursement for the Expenses from the Nomination Sponsor.

Except where prohibited by law, Nomination Sponsor does not make any representation nor offer any warranty, express or implied, as to the quality or fitness of the Prize(s) awarded in connection with this Nomination. Each Prize winner (or parent/legal guardian of a Minor winner), understands and acknowledges that he or she may not seek reimbursement or pursue any legal or equitable remedy from the Nomination Sponsor should the Prize fail to be fit for any purposes or is in any way unsatisfactory to a Prize winner and his/her nominee.

By entering the Nomination, each entrant agrees to waive all rights with respect to print and broadcast publicity. By entering the Nomination and accepting a Prize, the winner and his/her nominee or Minor winner’s and/or his/her nominee’s parent/legal guardian hereby consents to the reasonable use by Nomination Sponsor of the winner and his/her nominee name, age, photograph, video, voice, likeness and image, city or province of residence, worldwide and in perpetuity, without any further compensation, for any future promotional activity in connection with this Nomination. 

By entering the Nomination, each entrant agrees that the Releasees shall bear no responsibility whatsoever with regard to any claims, liability, damage, injury, accident, loss and misfortune related to any aspects of the Nomination, the Prize, the acceptance, use, misuse, possession and delivery of the Prize, participation of a selected winner and his/her nominee in any Prize related activities, printing errors, claims based upon publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy. By consenting to a Minor entrant’s entry into the Nomination, the Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian agrees to the foregoing on the Minor entrant’s behalf.

By participating in the Nomination and voluntarily providing personal information, each entrant (or the parent/legal guardian of a Minor entrant) consents and agrees to Family’s collection and use of the information provided by the entrant for the purpose of administering this Nomination. Your personal information will not be disclosed to any third party nor will you receive communications from the Nomination Sponsor, in compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its associated regulations, Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (CASL) and its associated regulations, and other applicable data protection and personal information protection laws. Nomination Sponsor is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of nomination or entry information which may affect an entrant’s inability to get through on the internet during the promotion or ability to participate in the Nomination, including but not limited to human error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed/corrupted data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof, any inability to access the site, or damage to a user's system occasioned by participating in the Nomination, and entries which fail to fully comply with these Nomination Rules. 

Nomination Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, and with the consent of the RACJ, to cancel, modify or suspend a contest or nomination for any reason, including without limitation in the event of any printing, administrative error, virus, bug, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond its control which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Nomination. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Nomination is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Nomination Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.  Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way. Appropriate notice to the RACJ will be provided where necessary. Family and its sponsors are not responsible for preemption, cancellation, or interruption, in whole or in part, of any Family contest related programming.

For residents of Quebec, any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the RACJ for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the RACJ only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
