Vacation Intervention Contest

FAMILY’S “Vacation Intervention” Contest (the Contest”)
OFFICIAL RULES (the “Contest Rules”)

The Contest runs from 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) January 8, 2019 to 10:00 a.m. ET January 29, 2019 (the “Contest Period”).

Nominate one adult in your life who is deserves a vacation intervention as part of your Contest entry.  When the Contest Period closes, Family’s Judges will score all eligible Vacation Intervention entries based on the Judging Criteria to select a final Winner.  A Family representative will contact entrants on February 4, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. ET to let them know their entry has been deemed a Winner.

To enter the Contest, go to (the “Website”) and click on the "VACATION INTERVENTION CONTESTicon displayed in the “CONTESTS” section of the Website to access the Contest microsite.

Click the ENTER button to access the standard Contest entry form. Fill out the entry form nominating one adult in your life deserving a “Vacation Intervention” by  (i) answering all four questions about why your nominee deserves a “Vacation Intervention”, each answer must be less than 1,000 characters (and follow the Vacation Intervention Guidelines below); (ii) entering your full name, age, city, province or territory, phone number, email address and parent/legal guardian’s full name and contact information if you are a Minor entrant (as defined in Eligibility); (iii) submit your completed entry form. A completed online entry form will constitute one entry into the Contest.        

Vacation Intervention Guidelines

  • Write your answers in a clear and appropriate language
  • Make full sentences: avoid short answers (less than 3 words)
  • Detail your answers as much as you can by giving concrete examples
  • Explain why your nominee deserves a vacation by highlighting his/her accomplishments, hard work or anything he or she has done for you and for others in his/her life
  • Highlight the benefits this trip will bring to your nominee and his/her family

The only method of entry for this Contest is online entry (internet access required). Online entry is available through the Website only; no other means of submission will be accepted. Although online access and an email account are required in order to participate, no purchase is required in order to enter the Contest. Many public libraries, retail businesses and others offer free access to computers and a number of Internet service providers and other companies offer free email accounts.

All eligible Contest entries will be entered for a chance to win a Prize. 

The Contest is open only to permanent lawful residents of Canada, excluding: (i) residents of Quebec under the age of 13; (ii) any person, or any person whose immediate family members (i.e., parents, children, spouse, siblings, grandparents, the “steps” of each and persons residing in such immediate family members' household), and persons with whom they are domiciled, has been declared a winner of another contest sponsored by DHX Television Ltd. (“Family” or the "Contest Sponsor") within 90 days of the start of the Contest Period; and (iii) employees, officers, directors, representatives, and agents (and their immediate family members (i.e., parents, children, spouse, siblings, grandparents, the “steps” of each and persons residing in such immediate family members' household), or persons with whom they are domiciled, whether related or not) of DHX Television Ltd. (“Family”) and Transat Tours Canada Inc. (the “Prize Provider”), and  each of their parents, subsidiaries and affiliates, and advertising and promotional agencies involved in this Contest.  This Contest is subject to all federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations. Void where prohibited by law.  Contest Sponsor, with the consent of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (the “RACJ”), reserves the right to cancel or suspend this Contest in the event of any accident, or administrative or other error of any kind.

An entrant under the age of majority in his/her province of residence (a “Minor”) must have a parent or legal guardian consent to his/her participation. Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian must provide his/her consent and his/her email address on the entry form, or the entry form will be disqualified. Proof of identification and parental consent must be provided upon request. If a parent or legal guardian does not provide consent, or if satisfactory proof of identification to confirm the winner’s (or the Minor winner’s parent/ legal guardian’s) identity and personal information provided in connection with the Contest, including but not limited to, the winner’s (or the Minor winner’s parent/legal guardian’s) name and email address, cannot be obtained, the entry will be disqualified.

Entries must be received no later than 10:00 a.m. ET on January 29, 2019. Contest Sponsor takes no responsibility for entries that are lost, misdirected, delayed, garbled, incorrect, illegible or received after the Contest deadline. Limit one entry per person during the Contest Period,in addition to a limit of four entries from the same household during the Contest Period. Only one email address and account may be used by any person to enter the Contest.  In the event that Contest Sponsor receives more than the permitted number of entries, Contest Sponsor reserves the right to void and destroy any entries from that entrant and household, and that entrant/household may, at the discretion of the Contest Sponsor, be disqualified from the Contest. Should it be discovered that an entrant is using the aid of computer programs to auto-fill entries, that entrant will be immediately disqualified from the Contest. Contest Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify all such entrants from future contests conducted by the Contest Sponsor without further notice.

In the event of a dispute as to the identity of a winner based on an email address, the winning entry will be deemed to be made by the authorized account holder of the email address at the time of entry. The authorized account holder is the natural person who is assigned an email address by an Internet service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the email address in question.

(referred to herein as “Grand Prize(s)” as applicable)

There is one Grand Prize package available to be won consisting of:

  • One 7-night all-inclusive package for two adults, and two kids, 12 and under, staying at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in one - Caribbean Suite with two double beds (room is based on quad occupancy);
  • Roundtrip economy airfare for two adults, and two kids, from nearest Canadian airport to the winner’s home servicing Air Transat flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic;
  • Ground transfers from the Dominican airport to the hotel

(approximate retail value of the Grand Prize package is $7,415, but may vary depending on dates of travel, and the departure city).

All amounts are in Canadian dollars.


By accepting the Grand Prize, winner (or a Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian on his/her behalf), agree to travel between February 1, 2019 and December 15, 2019 (the “Travel Period”).  Travel must be booked by October 31, 2019.  Standard blackout dates apply: from February 18, 2018, to March 24, 2019, and from April 12, 2019 to April 22, 2019.  Entrants selected as the Grand Prize winner, and his/her guest(s), must be able to travel during the Travel Period or the selected Grand Prize winner and his/her guests, shall forfeit the Grand Prize. All travel is booked on behalf of the winners by the Contest Sponsor or its representative, is based on availability.

The Grand Prize winner and his/her guests will be responsible for obtaining any required travel, health and identification documents (which must be valid prior to and for the entire duration of the trip). Visit the Passport Canada website for detailed information on the new mandatory passport requirements Winner and his/her guests are solely responsible for determining and obtaining all necessary travel documents, identification, and other travel requirements. The Releasees (as defined under the “Acceptance of Prize” section below) shall not be responsible for any winner, and/or his/her guests, in the event they are denied entry to a foreign country, re-entry to Canada, by customs officials of either country, and/or do not have the required travel documentation and identification, and in such event, the Contest Sponsor will not provide any compensation, or additional travel or accommodation the winner and his/her guests and the unused portion(s) of Grand Prize shall be forfeited.

All costs and expenses not specifically included above as part of each Grand Prize including, without limitation, taxes, fees, gratuities, travel insurance, items of a personal nature, additional optional excursions, tours, parking, souvenirs, and merchandise (“Expenses”), are the sole responsibility of the Grand Prize winner and his/her guests.  The Grand Prize winner and guests may not seek reimbursement for any Expenses from the Releasees (as defined under the “Acceptance of Prize” section below). 

Lost or stolen tickets and travel vouchers will not be replaced.  It is strongly recommended that the declared winner and his/her traveling companion(s) purchase medical, accident and baggage insurance. The Contest Sponsor is not responsible in this respect. It is the responsibility of the declared winner and his/her guests to check with the airline for baggage restrictions.

The Grand Prize Winner and his/her three guests must travel together on the same itinerary. No changes will be made to travel details once any portion of travel arrangements has been made, except as may be required due to availability and/or as may be required by the Contest Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion. The Grand Prize (and all elements thereof) is not redeemable for cash and is non-transferable except in the Contest Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion. The Grand Prize may not be sold or transferred to any other person or third party.

Actual retail value of the Grand Prize vacation package may be higher or lower based on departure schedules and locations and seasonal rates.  If the actual value of the Grand Prize is less than the stated ARV, the difference will not be awarded.

If the winner is under 18 years of age, at the date of departure, one of the winner’s guests must be his/her parent or legal guardian, who has agreed to be fully and legally responsible for the winner and any other guests under 18 years of age, for the duration of the Grand Prize trip, including sharing the same hotel room.

Each of winner’s guests who is under 18 years of age at the time of departure (the “Minor Guest”), must either (i) travel with his/her parent or legal guardian who shall be one of winner’s guests and who shall be fully and legally responsible for the Minor Guest for the duration of the Grand Prize trip; and must stay in the same room as his/her parent or legal guardian; or (ii) if the Minor Guest is not traveling with his/her parent or legal guardian, the Minor Guest must stay in the same room with winner who is 18 years of age, or older, or with the Minor winner’s parent or legal guardian, in which case the Minor Guest’s parent or legal guardian must in advance appoint the winner, or Minor winner’s parent or legal guardian (as applicable) full legal custody and control over the Minor Guest and the ability to contract on his/her behalf for the duration of  the Grand Prize trip.  Each Minor Guest must meet the foregoing conditions in order for the Minor Guest to be eligible to accompany the winner on the Grand Prize trip.

This Contest is not a random draw. One Grand Prize winner will be chosen by Family’s panel of judges (the “Judges”) at 4:30 p.m. ET, on February 4, 2019, at Family’s office located at 207 Queens Quay West, Suite 550, Toronto, Ontario.

The Judges will review the eligible entries, and will choose the winner of the Grand Prize, based on the Submissions which scores the highest on the judging criteria below (the "Judging Criteria”):

Your answers in the entry form must be:


•Entrant’s tone is hopeful and encouraging;


•Entrant’s ideas offer entertainment for the whole family, not just the author;


•Entrant’s ideas provide amusement & enjoyment; and
•Includes an element of surprise for a family member.


•Entrant’s ideas are inventive, unique, and a true reflection of author's family's passions


The chances of being selected to win a Prize, in this Contest, depend on the total number of eligible entries received, and the Judges' decisions.  All Judges' decisions are final.


A Family representative will notify the selected entrant, or the parent/legal guardian of the selected entrant who is a Minor, by telephone or email the same day of the selection on February 4, 2019. The selected entrant will then have three days following receipt of notification to contact Family to provide requested documentation to claim his/her Grand Prize.

Notification shall be deemed to have occurred, in the case of telephone notification, on the date that selected entrant, or in the case of a Minor, his or her parent or legal guardian, speaks with a representative of Family, or, in the case of email notification, the date the email is sent to the selected entrant’s email address by Family. It is the responsibility of the selected entrant or the selected Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian to check his other email account in a timely manner.

Prior to being awarded a Prize, the entrant selected as a winner must correctly complete, unaided, a time-limited, mathematical, skill testing question and must sign a declaration and release form (the “Declaration and Release”) confirming compliance with these Contest Rules, his/her acceptance of the Prize as awarded; and acknowledging the non-responsibility of the Contest Sponsor, the Prize Provider and any locations and venues that will be part of the all-inclusive vacation, and each of their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, cable or satellite affiliates, associates, their respective promotional and advertising agencies, and each of their respective employees, officers, directors, agents, successors and assigns (the “Releasees”), with regard to any injury, accident, damage, claim, liability, loss or misfortune related to any aspects of the Contest, any Prize awarded, the acceptance, use, misuse, possession and delivery of a Prize, participation of winner and his/her guests in any Prize related activities, printing errors or claims based upon publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy. A Minor winner’s parent or legal guardian must sign the Declaration and Release on his/her behalf in order for the winner to claim his/her Prize.

Each of the winner’s guests must sign a release form similar to the winner’s Declaration and Release in order to be eligible to participate in the Grand Prize.

The Declaration and Release must be signed and returned by 5 p.m. ET on February 12, 2019. Should Family be unable to contact the selected entrant by telephone or email, or should the selected entrant be unable to correctly answer the skill testing question or does not respond and complete the Declaration and Release by the deadline specified above, that selected entrant will be deemed to have forfeited any rights to the Grand Prize and second highest top scoring entrant, as determined by the Judges, will be selected in the same manner, in which event, the foregoing provisions of this sentence shall also apply to such other eligible entry. This process shall be repeated until such time as a selected entrant is confirmed to be a Grand Prize winner or until there are no more eligible entries, but in any event no later than June 29, 2019. All Prize taxes, if any, are the responsibility of each winner. Limit one Prize per household.

Contest Sponsor will not be held responsible for the loss of any prize due to changes in mailing addresses, errors in completed entry forms or any other circumstances leading to an invalid, erroneous or incomplete mailing address or email address.

Family or its appointed designee shall deliver Prizes to selected winner(s).

By submitting an Entry, each entrant (or Minor entrant’s parent or legal guardian on his/her behalf) agrees to be bound by these Contest Rules.

All entries become the property of Family and will not be returned.

Each Prize must be accepted “as is” and may not be exactly as shown. Contest Sponsor and Prize Provider, in their sole discretion, reserves the right to substitute any portion of a Prize with a prize of equivalent or greater retail value. Some restrictions may apply. Prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable, non-negotiable and have no cash value. If the actual value of any Prize is less than the stated approximate retail value, the difference will not be awarded.  All Prize elements are subject to availability.

All incidental costs and expenses, including but not limited to Travel Expenses (the “Expenses”) not specifically mentioned herein as part of the Prize description are the sole responsibility of the Prize winner. The Prize winner shall not seek reimbursement for any Expenses from the Contest Sponsor or Prize Provider.
Except where prohibited by law, Contest Sponsor and Prize Provider do not make any representation nor offer any warranty, express or implied, as to the quality or fitness of the Prize(s) awarded in connection with the Contest. Each Prize winner (or parent/legal guardian of a Minor winner) understands and acknowledges that he or she may not seek reimbursement or pursue any legal or equitable remedy from the Contest Sponsor or Prize Provider should the Prize fail to be fit for any purpose or is in any way unsatisfactory to a Prize winner.

By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees to waive all rights with respect to print and broadcast publicity. By entering the Contest and accepting a Prize, the winner or Minor winner’s parent or legal guardian hereby consents to the reasonable use by Contest Sponsor of the winner's name, age, photograph, voice, likeness and image, city, and province/territory of residence, worldwide and in perpetuity, without any further compensation, for any future promotional activity in connection with this Contest.

By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees that the Releasees shall bear no responsibility whatsoever with regard to any claims, liability, damage, injury, accident, loss and misfortune related to any aspects of the Contest, the Prize, the acceptance, use, misuse, possession and delivery of the Prize, participation of winner and his/her guests in any Prize related activities, printing errors, claims based upon publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy. By consenting to a Minor entrant’s entry into the Contest, the Minor entrant’s parent/legal guardian agrees to the foregoing on the Minor entrant’s behalf.

By entering the Contest and voluntarily providing personal information, each entrant (or the parent or legal guardian of a Minor entrant) consents and agrees to Family’s collection and use of the information provided by the entrant for the purpose of administering this Contest and, if consent is given at the time of entry, to provide the entrant with marketing information relating to new and existing products and upcoming promotions of Family by mail or email. Your personal information will not be disclosed to any third party nor will you receive communications from the Contest Sponsor unless your opt-in consent is received, in compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, the “Act”) and its associated regulations, Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (“CASL”) and its associated regulations, and other applicable data protection and personal information protection laws. Contest Sponsor is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of registration or entry information which may affect an entrants’ inability to get through on the internet during the promotion or ability to participate in the Contest, including but not limited to human error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed/corrupted data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof, any inability to access the site, or damage to a user's system occasioned by participating in the Contest, and entries which fail to fully comply with these Contest Rules. 

Contest Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, and with the consent of the RACJ, to cancel, modify or suspend a contest for any reason, including without limitation in the event of any printing, administrative error, virus, bug, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond its control which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Contest Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.  Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way.  Appropriate notice to the RACJ will be provided where necessary. Family and its sponsors are not responsible for preemption, cancellation, or interruption, in whole or in part, of any contest related programming. For residents of Quebec, any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the RACJ for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the RACJ only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
